Discovery Village-Southlake
I waited with a sweet lady who was very knowledgeable about the senior living community I was visiting. She is a former activities director who loves the residents and where she works.

Ken, the salesman and I had an 11:00 appointment on New Year’s Eve Day. He was a picture of professionalism as we rode the elevator to the first floor of Discovery Village. After he figured out why I was there (to gain info to share with my friends at Robson), he gave me a thorough tour of the place.
There seem to be two types of Assisted Living Facilities: 1)the kind where there are large (8-16 bed) homes with central dining and living areas and 2)the kind where there are separate apartment homes with small kitchens and living areas of their own. Central living and dining areas are also in this type but it is not your only option.

This community has been there a long time and recently got a face lift. The common areas and hallways were beautifully painted and decorated. The residents here clearly take pride in their personal spaces with fun art and wreaths on almost every front door.
Discovery Villages is a large company with Senior Living Communities almost all over the country. The cost of living is slightly higher in Southlake than Lewisville, for example but less than Austin so the cost of living in a Discovery Village follows that motion.
All of the senior living communities I visited had ‘bistros’ like this one available 24/7 as well as set menu dining; some even had order whatever you want dining. All of them also had a salon offering just about anything you would want in a public salon. Some had walk-in availability but most were appointment only.
