Strength and Balance for more consistent golf

I am now 57 years old and I have NEVER been stronger. A guy we saw in the gym recently asked what we were training for and we said “old age”…that’s it! that’s all!

Core Strengthening:
Planks: Builds core strength, essential for a stable golf swing.
Russian Twists: Improves oblique strength and aids in the rotational aspect of the golf swing.

Dynamic Stretching:
Arm Circles: Loosens the shoulders and improves range of motion.
Hip Rotations & moving hips front to back: Opens up the hips, crucial for a fluid golf swing.
Leg Swings: Warms up the leg muscles and improves hip mobility.

Resistance Band Exercises:
Band Pull-Aparts (arms): Strengthens the upper back and shoulders, as well as wards off tendonitis. Band Pull-Aparts (legs)

Yoga Poses:
Warrior Pose: Improves balance and lower body strength.
Downward Dog: Stretches the shoulders, hamstrings, calves, and arches, and strengthens the arms and legs.
Child’s Pose: A gentle stretch for the back, hips, thighs, and ankles.

Pilates Exercises:
I have never formally done Pilates, but I know people who swear by it!
The Saw: Stretches the back and hamstrings and improves spinal rotation.
Spine Stretch: Helps in stretching the spine and shoulders.
Leg Circles: Enhances hip flexibility and control.

Golf Specific

Indoor Putting Practice: This is where you can work on your fundamentals (grip, stance, set up and stroke). Make these things second nature then on the course, all you will need is the speed.
Mirror Work: Practice your golf swing in front of a mirror to work on form. We all have them—video coming soon.
THERE ARE NO EXCUSES! These exercises can be done with minimal equipment and space, making them perfect for indoor routines during the colder months. Consistency with these exercises will not only maintain flexibility but also contribute to a stronger and more efficient golf swing.
